1. Introduction

PriceSlice ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains in plain English what information we collect when you use our service, why we collect it, and what we do with it. We collect very little data about you, and none of it identifies you personally.

2. What We Collect

Device Fingerprint

When you use PriceSlice, we generate a hashed fingerprint from your device's browser characteristics. This is a one-way scrambled value — we store only the hash, not the underlying data, and it cannot be used to identify you as a person. We use this solely to enforce free-tier usage limits, validate subscriptions, and prevent abuse.

Shopping List Items

We store the items you add to your shopping list so the service works between sessions. This data is linked only to your device fingerprint, not to any personal identity. You can delete your list at any time within the app, or contact us to request deletion.

Payment Information

When you subscribe to Pro or purchase a Trial Pack, payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We receive only the transaction ID, amount, and status — we never see or store your card details. Payment records are kept for 7 years as required by UK financial law.

License Key Activations

We record which license keys exist and how many devices have activated them, in order to enforce the 2-device limit for Pro and Trial Pack access.

Fuel Search and Fuel Alerts

If you use the fuel price finder or set up a fuel price alert, we collect the postcode and search radius you provide, solely to identify nearby fuel stations and calculate distance. This is linked only to your device fingerprint, not to any personal identity, and is used only to deliver this feature.

Optional Email for Price Alerts

When creating a price alert, you may optionally provide an email address so we can notify you directly when the alert triggers. This is entirely optional — alerts work via in-app notification without one. If provided, your email is used solely to send that notification and is not used for marketing or shared with any third party beyond the email delivery service used to send it.

3. What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect your name, postal address, phone number, persistent location history, browsing history outside this app, contacts, photos, or any other information that could identify you personally. The only exceptions are the postcode and optional email address described above, which you provide voluntarily and solely to use specific features (fuel search/alerts and alert notifications).

4. How We Use Your Information

• To provide the price comparison service
• To enforce free-tier usage limits and validate paid subscriptions
• To prevent fraud and abuse
• To improve the service over time

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the service providers listed below who help us operate the app.

5. Third-Party Service Providers

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate PriceSlice. No personal data about you is shared with any of them:

• Stripe — processes payments on our behalf
• Supabase — hosts our database (shopping lists, fingerprints, license keys)
• Railway — hosts the PriceSlice application
• Apify — collects price data from supermarket websites (no user data shared)
• Open Food Facts — looks up product names from barcodes (only the barcode number is sent; no user data transmitted)

We may also disclose data to authorities if required by law.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

• Local Storage: We use your browser's local storage to keep your session active and remember your device between visits.
• No tracking or advertising cookies: We do not use any third-party tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies.

7. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data in transit, one-way hashing for device identifiers, and established cloud infrastructure with access controls. While we take reasonable precautions, no system is completely secure.

8. Children

PriceSlice is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any data from children. If you believe a child has used the service, contact us and we will delete any associated data promptly.

9. Your Choices

Because we collect no personal data that identifies you, most formal data rights have limited practical application. However, you can always:

• Delete your shopping list at any time within the app
• Request deletion of your device record and any associated data by contacting us
• Stop using the service — your anonymous data is used only to provide the service and for nothing else

PriceSlice handles data in accordance with UK data protection law. If you have a concern about how we handle your data that we have not resolved to your satisfaction, you may raise it with the UK Information Commissioner's Office at www.ico.org.uk.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Where changes are significant, we will notify you through the app. The date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
